After 18 years and four tours of duty in the Middle East with the U.S. Army, silence wasn’t what Zumjay needed. He needed the bass.
Standing in the middle of Uptown Mondays in the heart of Kingston, the contrast was absolute. Gone was the regimented tension of the desert; in its place was the pulse of the Dancehall. Watching the selectors spin, the dance crews execute intricate choreography, and people from every corner of the globe moving as one, it hit him: he was finally home.
In that moment, surrounded by the culture that raised him, the soldier receded and the artist re-emerged. The energy of the crowd didn’t just welcome him back; it demanded a response. Inspired by the universal language of the dancefloor, Zumjay headed to the studio with a clear mission: to make the world “Move wid it” and “Dance wid it.”
